Drawing on observations from nature and culture, Andreas Brunner creates striking images: coloured smoke rises from microphones, rocket-shaped ice lollies melt in a clenched fist, and “Hope” cigarettes burn down. Yet his short videos are not primarily political statements, but rather explorations of causality, process, and rhythm. References from pop culture, architecture, and art history flow into his videos, installations, objects, and performances. Through sketches, research materials, and material tests, the working process behind the works is made visible. Essayistic and theoretical texts complement the volume and contextualize Brunner’s practice.
Andreas Brunner, born in 1988, lives and works as a visual artist in Reykjavík and Lucerne. Páll Haukur Björnsson is an artist, lecturer, and programme director at the Iceland University of the Arts. Mia Ćuk lives in Belgrade, where she works as an artist, curator, lecturer, and writer. Jóhannes Dagsson is a philosopher, artist, and assistant professor of theory and fine art at the Iceland University of the Arts. Eveline Suter is a curator at Kunstmuseum Luzern.
